GARGOYLES!!!! According to Foe, season 2 is being worked on...hopefully, it'll be out by the end of the year(knowing my luck, it'll come out right about the same time as season 2 of Inu Yasha, killing my wallet)

It may be because my brain has pretty much died, but I can't really focus that much on new stuff. The most appealing things in the stack of DVDs are things that I've seen before, just not in a good while and not on DVD. Even "Fruits Basket" is appealing to me the most because it follows the books so closely. I finished my "Blade of the Immortal" reread and immediately moved on to rereading "Vagabond," instead of immediately delving into the stacks of unread stuff. I think my brain is just sending out messages that it can't take much "new" information, and that I should therefore give it comforting repeats.

HAVE managed to read some more of the new Elizabeth Peters book. Like many of the more recent Amelia Peabody books, it's more of an adventure than a mystery, but it's still extremely entertaining.

Books for the week:

NONE! No new books whatsoever made their way to me this week. But next week should make up for that.

DVDs:

Fruits Basket: Complete Series
The Lion King: Platinum Edition
Samurai Champloo v2
Smallville: Season 1
Wolf’s Rain v6: Paradise and Poison

Watched This Week:

Beauty & the Beast
Clue
National Treasure
Wolf’s Rain v6: Paradise and Poison

Read this week:

Monster Collection v1
Sword Of The Dark Ones Vol 1
W Juliet Vol 4

Birds Of Prey #80
Flash #219
Grimjack Killer Instinct #3
JSA #71-72
Lions Tigers & Bears #2-3
Richard Dragon #11
Teen Titans #22
Wonder Woman #214

“Beauty & the Beast” and “Clue” were quasi-rewatched of old favorites…as in a had them on for comforting background noise and listened for favorite scenes. As good as they usually are.

Fruits Basket eps 1-8: had already seen the first 6 eps before, but rewatched them before starting the new ones. Basically the manga in color with moving pictures, but Kyo in color is worth it. I’ll probably say something more…you know…substantial…after watching more.

“National Treasure”: I almost went to see in theaters but didn’t for some reason…probably would have if I’d known Sean Bean was in it(in an “Oh, it has him too? I’ll go ahead and go then” way) Not too be dissected and thought about too much, but great, great fun throughout. And I like the Templars and all the historical bits in the extras.

“Wolf’s Rain v6: Paradise and Poison”: Took me long enough to get ahold of this one. Excellent collection of eps. Aside from lots of “endgame” stuff, this disc focused, characterwise, mostly on Hige, much in the same way disc 3 focused largely on Hubb. 4 more episodes seems a bit much to finish out the series, especially as the ending of episode 26 very much had a “that’s it, the end, those of you who don’t have a girl to cuddle up with help the half dead guy.” Still…looking forward to the end(which should arrive with the first season of Lois & Clark)

“Monster Collection” and “Sword of the Dark Ones” are both CMX titles I picked up on a whim recently. The characters in “Monster Collection” were rather appealing and the overall storyline in “Sword of the Dark Ones” has me curious. Neither is spectacular, about on the level of “Madara,” which is to say, entertaining enough to see where it goes, but it likely won’t survive if I have to cull my manga titles.

“W Juliet” is a book that keeps surprising me by making me like it more and more each volume. It started out(in terms of my getting it and following up on it) much like “Monster Collection” and “Sword of the Dark Ones” but is edging its way up to being a favorite. Lots of fun, but Ito really needs to learn how to stop attracting the wrong kind of people(though I am fond of all her various suitors)

“Birds of Prey” wrapped a few things up and shook up the status quo, though why someone would be pissed that a person cared and worried enough about them to help them get through their hang-ups is beyond me…

Flash #219/Wonder Woman #214: Mostly just a prelude to Villains United, but pretty good. I am, of course, totally clueless as to Zoom, and last I saw of this Cheetah, she was MIA while someguy was calling himself Cheetah. Still, nice to see the superheroes get so soundly trounced.

JSA #71-72: Good wrap up. Never seen a direct reference to a retcon like that before. Interesting, though…if Degaton knows about the original Huntress, then he at least somewhat knows about Crisis on Infinite Earths, but Rip Hunter doesn’t seem to. And that was some…brutal…torturing on Degaton’s part.

“Grimjack” was quite good. I guess this is both establishing Gaunt’s past AND showing his “origins” at Munden’s. Not as good as the trade of the original stuff that I read, but good. Seems Ostrander really likes to use vampires in his Grimjack stuff.

“Lions & Tigers and Bears” was entertaining, but the most entertaining part was figuring out where Scott and Minnie keep all those stuffed animals. Oh, and Venus is like Patches, only huge(well, and the most dangerous foes patches faces are my stuffed Owls, Archimedes and Minnie)

“Richard Dragon”: CONNOR HAWKE!!!!! ::hearts and flowers fall from the sky and hover around Megan’s head:: I loves my Connor Hawke, I truly do. Like Shatterstar, Connor is one of those characters that few writers really “get,” and Dixon is one of the writers that “gets” Connor, instead of simply portraying him as a less effective version of Ollie. Aside from that(which was one of the main reason’s I didn’t drop the book a while back) this was one of the better issues of the series. Too bad it’s also the next-to-last.

“Teen Titans” was good, though I’m not too sure about the new Hawk & Dove, primarily because Dawn seems younger than she was portrayed as being in her JSA appearances(by the same writer) and because, while I think I vaguely recall it being mentioned that she has a sister, I seem to recall her parents being together in the old ongoing. Aside from that, interesting tidbit from Dr. Light about Roy…I wonder…was he saying the JLA screwed with Roy’s brain, which lead to the drug addiction, or that the JLA “fixed” his brain afterwards?
