Banya saves Mei by… luring a group of bloodthirsty barbarians and hoping they attack the psychotic killers instead of him and Mei. Banya also claims to have no issues fighting girls, but it’s still Mei who knees their female attacker in the face. Kong finishes up Banya’s delivery (because Banya had to go save Mei) which ends up crowning the new king, who comes to the rescue. Intros that are summarized as "Hi, I’m the new king of the dirt you’re standing on, my army and I would appreciate your not killing the guys who helped put me in power" are always rather fun. Mei shall make Banya suffer for losing her camel. I admire her priorities.

Second arc of the volume featured Banya delivering a message to a whiny brat who made me cheer when he died. Flipside is that Banya got to babble on quite a bit about being a delivery man(I think Mei made him chant this stuff nonstop when they were kids) and bemoan having to deliver a dead body. Final chapter starts an arc involving barbarians, monks, what appears to be a psycho unstoppable killer monk in a cell, and Banya escorting super high-strung, serious warrior types with hats and masks through the desert. It is already superior to the last arc.

There is still minimal plot. I find myself surprisingly unbothered by this.

I bowed my head to the power of the dark side Obata Takeshi's art and got Ral Grad from Amazon. While the BOOBIESBOOBIESBOOBIESBOOBIES I FIGHT TO SAVE THE WORLD FOR BOOBIESBOOBIESBOOBIESBOOBIES is strong in it, there's a certain lowbrow enjoyment in it, if you can ignore the fact that it's pandering directly to 15-year-old boys (and men who never got past 15.

Ral does not actually put on pants until page 103, though.

(And there's a point where Miss Mio, the tutor, attempts to explain to Ral that no, you don't get to fondle the princess' boobs just because you save her, but I am afraid the lesson does not stick for long.)

and I think I'll post this to my LJ

I may need to find it online to do some...uhm..."preview reading" to decide whether or not I want to spend money on it. If I can make it to page 103, it sounds like I'll be fine...

I think it's one of those things where there are a few elements in it that trip my Cool Bits - I really like the setup of the kid raised in darkness, it's just the boob fixationexecution that's bothering me; plus OBATA TAKESHI art - that will allow me to stick with it for a bit, until the other bits overwhelm me.

It's nowhere near Bastard!! level, but nothing is near Bastard!!'s level.

Bastard!! is essentially a genre unto itself...

Maybe it will eventually get over the...less appealing parts...

There was a scanlation group doing it, but they made you sign up for their s00per-speshul forums, and I think wanted to make sure you posted to said forums to be able to get the chapters, so I read the first 4 or 5 of them, and stopped. They were pretty crummy jobs, too: pages out of order and scans badly cleaned.

ETA: A different place to get it. (http://www.mangahelpers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12588) It's translated as "Blue Dragon" here.

I just looked at mangatraders.com...they have the first 4 volumes. Something to read once I catch up with D.Gray-Man.
